Making light work of energy savings

The company’s business development director, Steve Gardner, reports that the desire for lower energy bills is driving demand for replacement lighting installations, particularly from larger warehousing and distribution operations that operate 24-hours a day. Here he talks about LED technology and the results they are seeing with their Pegasus LED fitting.

“The light-emitting diode (LED) is one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technologies. Good quality LED’s last longer, are more durable, and offer better light quality than traditional types of lighting.

“The high efficiency and directional nature of LEDs makes them ideal for many industrial uses, particularly warehousing  and manufacturing environments where varying degrees of occupancy are required.”

Lutterworth recently launched the Pegasus LED fitting. The Pegasus range comes in multiple Wattages and beam angles to ensure maximum light levels are achieved with minimum energy consumed.

A traditional 400W Sodium discharge light fitting typically consumes around 460W, whereas the Pegasus LED equivalent consumes 220W when on full power and produces more light.

“We are typically seeing a 20% increase in light output and a further 26% reduction in energy over existing T5 light fittings in the market today,” states Gardner.

The fittings have built-in intelligent (remotely programmable) sensors to detect motion and monitor ambient daylight levels, dimming the fitting when full power is not required.

Typically, this results in customers making energy savings well in excess of 70%. Return on investment is rapid and is usually achieved in one to three years.

In addition to the financial and environmental benefits, LED lighting provides superior light quality, resulting in a lighter and brighter working environment with improved visibility and enhanced workplace safety.
