Managing global shipping
Dräger relies on continuous digitalisation in managing its global shipping processes. Since 2009 the Lübeck-based manufacturer of medical and security technology integrates all service providers along the supply chain from the place of shipping up to the consignee with a digital network management system and automates process workflows.
Dräger gains a comprehensive look at the supply chain and customers benefit from high delivery reliability.
In order to further develop this digitalisation and to establish it future-proof with modern IT solutions, Dräger has rebuilt the entire process. The system’s core piece is now the cloud-based IT solution AX4 which allows for cross-company cooperation of plant locations in Europe and North America, connected forwarders and logistics partners all over the world. Shipment data, tracking information and freight charges are exchanged via AX4, based on a pre-defined default process.
One part of Dräger’s new and digitalised logistics world are detailed reports which, for example, allow the company to check delivery reliability and to access important KPIs at the push of a button. Due to the high degree of automation in information and management processes, error sources in supply chain management are reduced and processes become leaner which leads to savings in transport and stock costs.
The freight cost, determined by the system, is used for transport cost billing in a crediting method and allows for detailed analysis on cost optimisation as well as proportional allocation up to the sales units in the different countries.
In this manner, the logistics platform AX4 seamlessly integrates with Dräger’s existing IT landscape.
