Materials drive webbing innovations
Webbing and straps are long established but still very important for load restraint in transport and warehousing, says Package Control UK.
The firm supplies standard assemblies, or customer specific assemblies, for a wide variety of applications.
Wayne Judd of Package Control says: “The products benefit from innovation in materials. Fibres are now being made from Aramid (Kevlar) type materials, or webbing with glow in the dark ident lines for night time or visibility in dark areas. Furthermore, we develop elasticated webbing for consistent stretch and high strength.”
This bodes well for traditional markets in transport load security but also helps Package Control make an impact in the warehouse and production areas. One example is elasticated straps to hold uniform loads on pallets for safe movement, without the waste and time required to shrink wrap goods (and remove packaging).
Hi-visibility webbing enables warehouse staff to view quickly to ensure goods in high racking are secured properly.
In conjunction with an automotive component manufacturer, the firm developed 9mm wide webbing for a current sports car model. This strap protects against vehicle damage should an engine mount fail in rebound mode. This particular strap is made from innovative fibres and displays good heat resistance with minimum elongation and a very high consistent break strength for its size.
