Men stole lorry tyres, sold them on eBay

A man has been given a two year community order for his part in the theft of tyres from Pirelli in Carlisle.

Mark Claxton, aged 55, of the square, Cummersdale pleaded guilty to this offence at an earlier hearing.

Mr Claxton was employed by Pirelli Tyres and police discovered a criminal enterprise between himself and Graham Wait who was a lorry driver at the time. Stolen tyres were took from the Pirelli factory and put on eBay. Both men benefitted financially from the thefts.

Graham Wait is due to be sentenced on 4th April 2016. The jury returned an unanimous guilty verdict.

DC Simon Gray said: “Pirelli Tyres UK are a valued employer in Carlisle; today’s verdict demonstrates that stealing from employers will not be tolerated. I would like to thank them for their significant assistance in this criminal investigation.

“I would like to take this opportunity to urge anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of theft to report it to the police so that we can investigate.”
