Midac UK supports UKMHA National Forklift Safety Day 2026
The UK Material Handling Association has announced that this year’s UK National Forklift Safety Day will focus on technician safety.

ON 9 June 2026, technicians take centre stage as the campaign highlights the essential contribution of skilled engineers. Their expertise ensures that forklift equipment is maintained to the highest standards, supporting safe, reliable, and compliant operations throughout its working life.
Handling a forklift battery can be a dangerous business and ensuring technicians have sufficient skills to handle, maintain, and repair a forklift battery is essential for workplace safety. Batteries are heavy, hazardous, and permanently live so it is important that both forklift operatives and technicians are aware of the dangers. Here are a few top tips to keep everyone safe.
Before handling a battery, all metal objects should be removed (jewellery, watches etc..) and technicians should ensure that nothing can fall onto the battery before conducting any operation. Insulated tools should always be used, and nothing should be placed on top of the cells.
On a daily basis, forklift operatives should undertake visual checks to ensure there is no damage to plugs, connectors and leads and batteries are kept dry, clean, and free of corrosion. Any damage must be reported and repairs completed by a skilled battery technician before using any electric forklift.
Midac supplies important safety information with every battery and sites can also choose from a range of safety boards that can be displayed in charging areas to highlight the health and safety risks. The company also supplies a range of safety products, from eye wash and spill kits through to battery handling equipment to minimise risk of injury.
For standard wet lead-acid batteries, it is important that electrolyte levels are regularly checked and cells are topped up with demineralized water when necessary, following the full recharge of the battery. Midac recommends a battery maintenance contract in order to keep batteries regularly topped. With regular scheduled visits, customers can be assured that their equipment is taken care of and safe to use.
Midac has a team of battery technicians stationed across the UK and Ireland. Technicians are trained to the highest level on the latest technologies and are able maintain and repair a wide range of lead acid and lithium batteries and chargers. Whether it’s a one-off call out, or a scheduled maintenance contract, Midac has a team of skilled engineers to keep batteries, trucks, operators, and workplaces safe.
