Packaging feels the squeeze

Bio Group, a company which turns food waste into renewable energy, operates a Greenbank SC2000 Screw Compactor at its plant in Southwold in Suffolk.

As part of the Bio Group process, waste food packaging has to be removed and washed before it can be sent to landfill or recycled. However, as the packaging is full of water, this initially posed a problem for effective disposal.

Greenbank was able to solve this problem by supplying a compactor with an integrated, automated screw mechanism that squeezes out all water and then compacts the rubbish so that it can be put into a skip for collection.
