Slowed to creep speed

Posted on Monday 8 February 2021

Transmon Engineering has designed and installed an advanced driver assistance system at Pladis Global’s warehouse in Ashby De La Zouch.

It has a fleet of 16 pallet and reach trucks that needed to be automatically slowed to a creep speed in three areas where pedestrians and trucks shared pathways in close proximity.

Using low frequency ground embedded loops Transmon created safety zones where needed and recommended that the trucks be automatically switched to creep speed within these areas. Each time a truck crossed into a low speed zone, the truck would automatically switch to a low speed. When the truck then leaves the zone the system can be set so the driver would need to manually select the high speed. Unlike other systems, the solution actively manages the drive speed based on the zones.

Pladis Global logistics and development manager Mike Hellier says: “We invested in the Transmon forklift speed control system to ensure that our permanent and temporary team members were protected in key parts of the site. We were pleasantly surprised at how fast and simple the installation was and it has proven to be 100% reliable. Our forklift activity is now fully regulated and there has been a clear and demonstrable improvement in safety.”
