Associated British Ports invests in reachstackers

The leading ports group has bought two Kalmar Gloria reachstackers for its Hams Hall Rail Terminal in Birmingham.

The order was signed in August 2014 with delivery in December 2014. The deal will enable ABP to continue to meet key performance indicators for its blue chip customers, including a tight 30-minute turnaround time. Both machines have been supplied with Kalmar’s integrated ground-stabiliser system, which increases the capacity of the machine in second and third rail operations.

“At Hams Hall we value our drivers and want to give them the best tools for the job. Kalmar’s excellent cab ergonomics and after-sales support were key to the deal,” said Mike Gibson, Hams Hall terminal manager.

The fifth-generation Gloria DRG450 reachstacker is said to offer customers market-leading productivity and lifetime value. The product of decades of research and development, Gloria is now regarded as the highest quality, most innovative and reliable reachstacker available today, with significantly lower maintenance requirements and downtime than competing solutions, says Kalmar.

For drivers, the EGO cab offers a panoramic view, intuitive interfaces and ergonomically designed controls. With Gloria’s technology delivering an improved operator experience, safety standards have been improved. Gloria reachstackers include a reversing camera with integrated proximity sensors and a tyre-pressure monitoring system as standard.

The deal extends Kalmar’s cooperation with ABP, adding to the four Kalmar Reachstackers already in use. ABP operates 21 ports around the country with a total annual TEU of 100,000.
