Connection technology manufacturer Hummel AG has appointed Toyota Automated Logistics (TAL) as general contractor to rebuild and modernise the warehouse at its headquarters in Denzlingen, Germany, while production continues.

THE PROJECT forms part of a plant expansion that includes a new nickel-plating system and the transfer of machining operations from Hummel’s Waldkirch site to Denzlingen. The old pallet warehouse must make way for a new one, so TAL is developing both the final intralogistics concept and an interim concept to keep operations running during the transition.

The existing automated small-parts warehouse, equipped with viaspeed storage and retrieval machines, will also be modernised, and the latest version of TAL’s viadat warehouse management system will be installed. The measures are designed to increase storage capacity and throughput while improving material flow and energy efficiency.

“A central element of this mammoth task is the work of Toyota Automated Logistics, which is not only making our logistics and intralogistics fit for the future but is also ensuring a smooth changeover during ongoing operations, without disrupting production,” said Markus Biller, project manager at Hummel AG.

The project continues a long-standing partnership between Hummel and viastore, which became part of TAL in April 2026. Installation will begin in February 2027 in several phases, with go-live scheduled for December 2028.

Thomas Hibinger, CEO EMEA & APAC at Toyota Automated Logistics, said: “We are very pleased to continue our long-standing, successful partnership with Hummel AG and to support the plant expansion.”
