Handling up to 120 tonnes of product a day demands reliable equipment and responsive support. For Lincolnshire-based The Roasting Company, that has meant a longstanding partnership with Windsor Materials Handling.

“The reason we stay with you is because of reliable service.”

That’s the verdict of Andy Paddock, Production & Warehouse Manager at The Roasting Company in Heckington, Lincolnshire, where Windsor Materials Handling has been supplying and supporting forklift trucks for approximately 13 years.

The business roasts peanuts for customers across the UK, including major supermarkets and manufacturers serving the peanut butter, confectionery and snack food markets.

The operation presents a variety of materials handling challenges. Incoming shipping containers must be unloaded, sometimes with products arriving in bulk bags rather than on conventional pallets. These require specialist handling, with trucks lifting the bags by their loops before moving them into storage or onwards through production.

With up to 120 tonnes of product moving through the facility each day, the reliability and suitability of the forklift fleet are essential.

Loads can range from just 10kg to 1,250kg, while restricted heights within the site’s drive-in racking mean that equipment must be carefully specified to suit the working environment.

Over the years, Windsor has worked alongside The Roasting Company to meet these changing requirements, supplying and supporting equipment from several manufacturers, including Bobcat and, more recently, UN Forklifts.

The relationship extends well beyond supplying new machines. A dedicated Windsor service engineer, familiar with the site and its equipment, provides continuity and responsive technical support. Additional engineers are available when required, helping maintain service standards and minimise disruption.

“The service level is always kept to a high standard,” explains Andy. As the business has developed, Windsor has helped address new handling challenges, including container unloading requirements, while regularly reviewing the fleet to identify opportunities for improvements and equipment upgrades.

“We see the improvements of the upgrades to the trucks as well,” adds Andy.

For The Roasting Company, it is this combination of practical knowledge, local support and reliability that makes the difference.

For Windsor founder Gerry Burton, the principle was always straightforward: “You start getting customers, the word gets around, you give them good service, and it just grows from there.”

Over 50 years later, Andy Paddock’s experience at The Roasting Company shows just how relevant that philosophy remains.
